Product Description
Potassium Fluoroaluminate Potassium Aluminum Fluoride Cryolite
Potassium aluminum fluoride (KAlF4) is a commercial grade molten solid inorganic salt. This material can be used as a substitute for traditional fluoride salts for a variety of purposes, some of which are listed below.
Potassium aluminum fluoride is usually the main component of salt fluxes used for metal cleaning. It can be added alone or combined with other salts such as sodium chloride and potassium chloride. The addition of fluoride enhances the general properties of salt flux. The function of salt fluxes is to separate metals from oxides and dregs, and prevent the combustion of aluminum, so as to maximize the output. When potassium aluminum fluoride is added to the mixture of sodium chloride and potassium chloride, the resulting flux is more fluid. This increased fluidity can better cover the exposed molten metal, which is beneficial to release the metal mixed in the slag. Active fluoride will also remove magnesium from the melt and improve metal purity. Some aluminum casting alloy manufacturers use KAlF as their special magnesium remover (to replace dangerous chlorine gas).

Application
1. It is used directly in magnesium rich aluminium alloys to remove and control of magnesium in the aluminium alloys. .
2. It is used in the manufacture of grinding wheels (filler/binder) and other abrasive products.
3. Other common applications of PAF are as additive to roofing shingles, where it acts as an alkaline Ph adjuster and flame retardant. It can also be used as color additive to the coatings for roofing granules.
4. Glass producers use the PAF for opacification, or to cloud the glass giving it a milky white color.
