Aluminium fluoride is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula AlF3 prepared by the reaction of aluminium hydroxide or aluminium.Colourless or white crystals. Insoluble in water and insoluble in acids and bases. Stable in nature, hydrolysable under heating. Used as an electrolyte conditioner and catalyst in the electrolysis of aluminium.

APPLICATIONS
Additive used in the production of metallic aluminum. Aluminum fluoride (AlF3) is widely used as an additive in the production of electrolytic aluminum.
It is widely used as an additive in the production of electrolytic aluminum. Used with cryolite, aluminum fluoride lowers the melting point to below 1000°C, forming a molten salt that dissolves in water.
Used with cryolite, aluminum fluoride lowers its melting point to below 1000°C, forming a molten salt that dissolves aluminum oxide. This molten solution is then electrolyzed to produce metallic aluminum.
